What is fear?

Fear creeps into all of our lives.

It’s the voice in our head which says –‘If you start making new decisions and taking action, you won’t be able to cope with the changes and you may not even survive (the ego likes to be dramatic!)… life will become too unpredictable and unfamiliar, which doesn’t feel very comfortable or safe’.

In these moments we have a choice whether to stay safe and believe that voice, or decide that now is the time to face our fears and move forward in life.

When we commit to change and we face our fears head on, we begin to make decisions, we choose to take action and our life starts to change. Everything suddenly becomes exciting and life is full of possibilities again. We no longer have to settle for a life that makes no sense to us, or is not in alignment with our highest truth.

The first step to a better life is to recognise that what we’re experiencing is fear and this can be tricky as fears are wide and varied and affect each of us differently. One thing remains the same, ourfears keep us stuck and prevents us from having the life we really wantand the money we deserve.

Fear of failure, fear of success, fear of rejection, fear of criticism, fear of judgement, fear of not being enough, fear of public speaking, fear of change, fear of releasing toxic people from your life, fear of trusting people again, the fear of changing jobs… the list could go on and on and each one can impact your ability to attract, earn and keep money.

If we let fear rule our lives, we are depriving ourselves of what it means to be truly alive! We cannot hold the energetic vibration of fear and still be open to joy, love, passion, happiness, success, connection and abundance.

Do you really want to live a life where these things are not even a possibility for you?

So what is fear really?

Ultimately it is about feelingout of control, uncertain, unsafe and veryuncomfortable.

Physically, it starts with a feeling of panic and anxiety, which is closely followed by an increase in heart rate. Your breathing can become shallow and quick, and you start to feel butterflies in your stomach. For some fear is the start of adrenaline pumping through your body, you’re ready for fight or flight. Emotionally, it’s about not knowing the outcome and being afraid that you won’t be able to cope or deal with what happens. We imagine the worse case scenario and our mind is tormented by worrying and repetitive thoughts.

The whole process is exhausting.

This is why so many people choose to stay stuck and procrastinate. Even though their life is causing them pain, they know exactly what to expect each and every day. There is a strange comfort in that, and as the saying goes – better the devil you know. We may not be happy or fulfilled, but we know exactly how life is going to play out. In these moments we have a choice whether to stay safe and believe that voice, or decide that now is the time to face our fears and move forward in life, especially if we want more money.

So when is it time to face your fears?

Just ask yourself one simple question and see how it makes you feel – Am I prepared to wake up in 12 months time and look at my life, only to see that nothing has changed?

Try this meditation to really allow yourself to connect with this:

  1. Close your eyes and take some nice deep cleansing breaths – in through the nose and out through the mouth. Just feel your body relaxing.
  2. Let go of the thoughts of the day and give yourself permission to be fully present and set the intention of being open to clarity and feeling into your future.
  3. Know that you’re deeply grounded, imagine roots coming from the soles of your feet and connecting you to the earth if it helps. This is especially useful if you have a busy mind.
  4. Know that you’re safe, imagine a bubble of energy all around you keeping you safe and supporting you as you go through this process.
  5. If it helps, place a hand over your heart space then imagine your life one year from now. Nothing has changed. You’re doing the same things in the same way, with the same people, earning the same amount. Your fears and struggles are still the same.
  6. Notice what you see in your minds eye and what feelings are coming up.
  7. Once you have seen and felt enough, take a deep breathe, come back to the present moment and capture these insights in your journal or notebook.

If you really want to dive deep into this, try imagining 3, 5 and then 10 years into the future. Are you happy with this life that is unchanged? Remember, there is only one person who can change your reality and that’s you. If you didn’t like what you saw and felt, then use that as your motivation to create change.
