Your fears around money

Jack Canfieldsays – ‘Everything you want, is on the other side of fear’ and I couldn’t agree more. We all talk about wanting a better life, one that is full of love, joy and abundance, but are you ready to do the inner and outer work to create that? I hope the answer is yes, because I believe we can all have health, wealth and happiness, we just have to be prepared to make it happen. Wishful thinking is not enough; it has to be supported by clarity and action taking.

We also have to be brave and courageous and accept that sometimes we may stumble and fall along the way, but this is part of the journey and the adventure of life. Just know that every time you fall, you willget back up, you willbrush yourself down and you willcontinue on your path.

Most fears can be traced back to the need to survive and nothing triggers this survival instinct more than money. For some it’s about the fear of not having enough money to live our lives authentically, for others it’s the fear of actually having money. Both can tie us up in knots.

All of this worry and anxiety, blocks our flow of inspiration, creativity and our ability to trust our intuition and our choices. It takes us away from the present moment and we find ourselves missing things – the opportunities right in front of us, solutions for our challenges and also the beauty of the present moment. Life passes us by as we focus on surviving instead of thriving.

We look at everyone else and comparison kicks in. We believe we’re failing and we’re not enough, because they appear to have more, are doing more or are simply better than us. This fear keeps us in a place of exhaustion because we’re always trying to be more than who we are. We’ve decided that we’re not enough and the only way to make this feeling go away is more money. Money will make us feel better about ourselves, it proves we’re okay and enough and it will allow us to release all this fear we have over the future.

When we commit to change and we face our fears head on, we begin to make new decisions, we choose to take action and our life starts to change. Everything suddenly becomes exciting and life is full of possibilities again. We no longer have to settle for a life that makes no sense to us, or is not in alignment with our highest truth.

The first step to a better life is to recognise that your resistance to addressing things, taking action, facing your emotions etc is often fear. We’re worried about what could happen, if we will cope, what will come up for us emotionally, how other people will react…and the list goes on and on. Fear is wide and varied and affects each of us differently, but one thing remains the same, our fears keep us stuck and prevents us from having the life we really want.

So let’s look at the most common things I hear around fear and money:

  • Not being able to pay my bills
  • Not having consistent income
  • Not being able to do what I love and earn money – especially with artists, creative’s and healers
  • The fear that nothing will ever change and we’ll always be chasing money
  • Having to go and get a job and work for someone else
  • Being in debt forever
  • Not being able to but the things in life that you really desire – a family home, holidays, little treats for you and the family
  • I’ll have to work really hard to earn money
  • I’ll have to do something I don’t enjoy
  • Working so hard could cause ill health in my body and I don’t want to face burn out again.
  • My body will let me down
  • I’m scared to put myself out there and in case of rejection
  • I’m scared to try something new in case I make the wrong decision or I fail
  • If I earn more money my family will start taking advantage of me and friends will expect me to pay all the time
  • I’ll have to pay more tax and I’m already struggling
  • I don’t want to emasculate my partner and impact the dynamics of our relationship
  • If I earn more, I’ll have to shoulder all the financial responsibility and I don’t know if I want that
  • There is something wrong with me – unlovable, unworthy, undeserving etc and that’s why money never comes to me

Holding onto these beliefs and fears is exhausting, and chasing after money never works, because the energy around it is just so needy.

When we think about money from a place of fear, we’re blocking money from coming to us, because money is attracted to the energetic vibration of love, joy, passion, excitement, wonder and fear is the exact opposite of these.

Let’s look at some of the fear’s you’re holding onto and if it helps try this simple meditation:

  1. Close your eyes and take some nice deep cleansing breaths – in through the nose and out through the mouth. Just feel your body relaxing.
  2. Let go of the thoughts of the day and give yourself permission to be fully present and set the intention of being open to clarity and feeling into your future.
  3. Know that you’re deeply grounded, imagine roots coming from the soles of your feet and connecting you to the earth if it helps. This is especially useful if you have a busy mind.
  4. Know that you’re safe, imagine a bubble of energy all around you keeping you safe and supporting you as you go through this process.
  5. If it helps, place a hand over your heart space then ask yourself what fears you’re holding onto and notice what comes. Use the list above to see if these things trouble you or cause a reaction.
  6. Notice what you see in your minds eye and what feelings are coming up. Also pay attention to the memories arising. It could be that you have a negative association with money and are subconsciously pushing it away.
  7. Once you have seen and felt enough, take a deep breathe, come back to the present moment and capture these insights in your journal or notebook.

As you go through the rest of the program, be sure to revisit this list, you can add more if necessary and remove the fears you feel you’ve dealt with. It’s always good to keep tracking your progress, because it’s important to celebrate the wins and also be clear on the things that keep asking for your attention.

Now that you have more clarity, answer the following questions:

  1. What did you notice about your fears, when it came to money? Any surprises?
  2. Did you experience memories from the past, which has lead to a negative association with money?
  3. Look at your fear about money again, what if those things were to happen? How would it feel to connect with your inner strength and resilience and just ‘know’ that no matter what, you’ll be okay?
  4. What is the one fear in your life that needs to be addressed now? What small steps can you take to start putting this into motion?
  5. What needs to happen so that you feel safe at your very core?

When you choose to stay in a place of fear, you’re choosing to become a prisoner of your own mind and you’re choosing to stay stuck.

Look back at what you said you wanted at the beginning of this program – do you really want those things? If so, it’s time to face your fears, take action and claim the life that’s waiting?
